No matter how you pronounce it, the word, cholera, has inspired one of late 2013's catchiest alt/indie roots songs. In fact it's hard to believe that famed author, Gabriel García Márquez is linked to Toronto's Strumbellas by only one degree. If you're wondering how this is possible, watch the video on the Juno-nominated band's website - OR better yet, tune in to Hop The Fence this Friday to hear more about it as lead vocalist, Simon Ward, joins us on air. Trust me, you are sure to get a kick out this creative singer, song-writer and now, inventor of words. The Strumbellas will be at Zaphods on Saturday night showcasing their latest disc, We Still Move on Dance Floors.
Brock Zeman
Easily one of the Ottawa Valley's most prolific song writers, Brock Zeman is releasing a tenth album in almost as many years! The new disc called, Rotten Tooth, has been dropping in various locations around the valley this week. Brock will be telling stories in his characteristic rough and ready roots-style at The Blacksheep Inn on Saturday night. I'm looking forward to chatting with Brock on-air at 5 pm Friday. Tune in!
Hop The Fence airs every Friday at 5 pm on CHUO in Ottawa at 89.1 on the FM dial or tune in online at www.CHUO.fm. You can also find us on iTunes radio under college stations.
Yours truly, anne-marie xox
