That's not to say Gareth, aka, Jack Pine has lost his spark.  But for now, he is enjoying a solo stint without his usual sidekicks (The Fire).  Jack Pine is ready to drop his very first solo EP, Lone Wolf.  No need to explain the title.

Apart from real actual wolf howls and thunder, the EP features 4 folk songs played on mandolin, guitar, and tenor guitar. Another local notable, Anders Drerup provides accompaniment on guitar and harmonies.  The songs were recorded live off the floor in a day, in a solar powered church-turned-studio in Kinburn, ON.

Gareth will be live in studio with us this Friday. You can catch him later in the evening at St-Alban's Church along with The John Punch Band (who are also releasing a new disc).

Also queued up for you this week:
  • Poorfolk - yes they are back! - Catch them at House of Targ on Saturday with Acres and Species at Risk.
  • Goodnight, Sunrise: From Toronto, they are performing at the Rainbow on Wednesday.

All the fun starts at 5 pm this Friday. Tune in at 89.1 FM in Ottawa or online at CHUO.fm. You can also find us on iTunes radio under College stations and on #943 on Rogers HD.

We are gearing up for CityFolk and very excited that so many local bands will have the opportunity to perform for us and for all the Ottawa festival goers!  Be sure to check out the Marvest line-up and go support your fave bands.

This week, we will be chatting with Scarlett Jane, a dynamic duo made up of Andrea Ramolo and Cindy Doire.  You may likely recognize their names as they have each enjoyed success on the Canadian scene for some time. But then, they came together as a duo in 2011 and now have a brand new disc for us to explore. It's called Stranger, was written during a trip to Cuba and presents songs like a series of postcards. Their delicate sounds and vocals give shape to the startlingly candid lyrics.  They will be performing at CityFolk Thursday Sept 17 at 6 pm on the Ravenlaw stage.

We will have lots more great Canadian tunes queued up for you including brand new material from In-Flight-Safety, an album called Conversationalist.  The East-coasters are sailing into Zaphods on Saturday night,

Tune in at 5 pm on 89.1 FM in Ottawa or online at CHUO.fm. to get all the details!  You can also find us on iTunes radio under College stations and on #943 on Rogers HD.

Halifax-based Quiet Parade is set to drop a new album at the Blacksheep Inn on September 19.  The sound of their new self-titled disc reflects the location where it was recorded in Lake Echo described as a “secret paradise” and “artistic haven” on the outskirts of Halifax. Their gentle atmospheric indie-pop was honed by award-winning producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, Oh Pep, In-Flight Safety).  We’ll be chatting with the band's Trevor Murphy on this week’s program.

Last week, we told you about a new initiative called Marvest coming to town as part of the upcoming CityFolk festival.  A number of local bands will be performing for free in unusual venues around the Glebe over the weekend of Sept 17-20.  I will be featuring some of these bands over the coming weeks leading up to the festival.

This Friday, we will be chatting with local alt-indie-country artist, James Leclaire who will be releasing a CD called These Weights.

Tune in at 5 pm on 89.1 FM in Ottawa or online at CHUO.fm. to get all the details!  You can also find us on iTunes radio under College stations and on #943 on Rogers HD.
